LESSON #1
April 18, 2020
Welcome to the website of the Lesia Ukrainka Ukrainian School of Ottawa
We are a Ukrainian language school with classes every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at 1303 Fellows Rd, Ottawa, ON K2C 2V8
Children aged 4 to 14 study at the school. The only condition for enrolling in the school is the desire to study the Ukrainian language, history and culture. Students are divided into classes by age and taking into account the level of Ukrainian language proficiency. Also, the school has a class for English-speaking students who study Ukrainian as a foreign language. Training is conducted according to the author's methods of our teachers.
The school's program does not involve the study of individual subjects, but is aimed at learning the Ukrainian language (reading, writing, speaking), an overview of the history of Ukraine, and getting to know its culture.
We look forward to seeing you and your children!

How did it all begin?
Lesya Ukrainka Ukrainian School was founded by the Ukrainian community back in 1977. At the time when repressions against everything Ukrainian raged in Ukraine (then the Ukrainian SSR), the diaspora tried to preserve our identity, language, traditions and culture.
Living in the New World, you begin to understand how to get lost in the ocean of different ethnicities, religions, cultures and social currents. Ukrainianness is the stronghold on which you can build your new life on Canadian soil. In the Ukrainian community, you can find new friends, learn useful information, get support and understanding.
The Ukrainian school is the first step for joining the circle of Ukrainian life in Canada.
A guest at the lessonis a permanent project of our school, which helps Ukrainian children in Canada to get to know Ukrainian cultural figures, politicians, masters of their field and just interesting people. In recent years, as part of this project, soloists of the bands S.K.A.Y. and TiK, ambassador plenipotentiary Andriy Shevchenko, sculptor Anton Lubii, actress Nataliya Rybka-Parkhomyk, kobz master Gordiy Starukh and many other interesting people.
Meetings take place in the format of free communication, guests talk about themselves, and children ask questions. In such an easy, unobtrusive way, we introduce our students to interesting people who can inspire and motivate children.
Our partners
The Ukrainian School expresses its sincere gratitude to partners and friends who have supported our activities for many years.
Thanks to partner help, we were able to implement a system of incentives for school students - the "Tyamkology" project. Children who regularly attend classes and do homework receive a financial reward from our partners.
