LESSON #1
April 18, 2020
Ms. Teresa is the school director
From childhood, I remember how my parents instilled love for the Ukrainian language through songs, traditions, poetry, art, and religion. I always looked forward to the time of divination on Andrei; Christmas caroling; consecration of the Easter basket; and the celebration of Ivan Kupala.
And how wonderful the Ukrainian language is... Just read T. Shevchenko, L. Ukrainku, M. Rylskyi, G. Kvitku-Osnovyanenko, L. Kostenko and many others. And this is just that small part of our rich Ukrainian culture, our DNA, which was instilled in us from birth through the mother's umbilical cord, reproduced in embroidery, engraved in a thousand-year history.
As the director of the Lesya Ukrainka Ukrainian School in Ottawa, my main duty is to continue to instill a love for all things Ukrainian, to enable children to study in a Ukrainian school, and to feel part of the great Ukrainian community in Ottawa.
